On Monday, July 2nd, Freedom in Christ held it first service of Baptism during worship services at the Religious Activities Center at Montana State Prison. Jason Lee Hanneson was baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, in the presence of nearly twenty Inmate Participants (members). Witnesses (sponsors) were Todd Rude and Christopher Evans. This was an exciting evening, a high point of our young ministry (congregation). It came on the heels of what might be seen as a low point, our first funeral, which was held on June 29th. But any situation or event that permits the Gospel to be shared is always a reason for joy. I was also able to visit in person with the mother of the young man who had died, giving her some degree of comfort, since she was unable to attend the service, for health and economic reasons.
As I write this, I am just returning from our second funeral. I am, once again, overjoyed to preach God’s love for us in Christ Jesus. But saddened that, also once again, someone has died and the family is unable, for whatever reason to bury their loved one, or even attend the service.
I wonder if, perhaps, we might continue furthering the ministry of Freedom in Christ by trying to find a way to help the family members of inmates who die here attend the service and/or provide someone to offer them at least a visit from someone from Freedom in Christ. Does that sound like maybe another opportunity for someone to volunteer?
“May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. Give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He is the Father who gives tender love. All comfort comes from him. He comforts us in all our troubles. Now we can comfort others when they are in trouble. We ourselves have received comfort from God.”
