Today is the day! The day to announce our winners of the 2013 Quilt Contest. Are you ready? Quilters, are you anxiously awaiting? Okay…the wait is over! Drum roll please….
First Place –
The group wins $200.00!
The description submitted with their quilt entry states:
“Our group was formed when a challenge was issued to the men of our congregation about doing a quilt for the Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp. We took up the challenge and completed a quilt for the camp. We enjoyed the fellowship that was experienced so decided to continue making quilts for the camp. Pastor Christ requested that we do a quilt for Prison Ministry. The design that we used for this quilt is the “Nine Patch.” The guys wanted it to be very colorful using bright colors.”
Well done gentlemen! Well done. Congratulations on winning the 2nd annual Freedom in Christ Prison Ministry Quilt Contest.
Second Place –
They win $100.00!
The description accompanying their quilt entry states:
“A group of faith based friends began to socialize because of their love of sewing. Soon their plans materialized into a special group, bound by a common thread to become the ‘Material Girls.’ Their gatherings became weekly sewing, socializing and fellowship times where friendships became ‘sew’ special.
“Their design was a joint project using a purchased pattern. Members made various blocks from a selected color theme. Each sewing or quilting technique was a gift of the various quilters. The smaller blocks around a larger inner square reminded us that it takes all of us to make a beautiful memory.”
Third Place –
They win $75.00!
The group submitted the following with their entry:
“The Love Day Quilters are approximately 20 women who meet the first Thursday of each month. Our quilts are donated to Lutheran World Relief, Shodair Hospital and various groups within the church and the community.
“Our quilt is dedicated to those who have faced the challenge of living with breast cancer.”
All 24 quilts submitted to this year’s quilt contest and auction are beautiful, and each is a winner in its own rights. We are very proud of “our” quilters, and extremely grateful for their generosity in donating these quilts for the auction. Last year’s quilts brought in approximately $9,000! This money helps fund the Freedom in Christ’s worshiping community within the walls of the Montana State Prison for Men in Deer Lodge, Montana.
Prizes will be awarded at the 2nd Annual Dinner and Auction on March 23, 2013. The dinners are hosted by various churches and organizations around Montana and the live silent auction is via the internet, accessible at the host locations. We hope you will attend a location near you and enjoy an evening of food, fellowship, and bidding war fun!
See you in March.
